Sketch with Sanity

  1. Use the papers with resolution markers on it instead of plain white paper. If you are designing for an app of 1260 max. resolution; use the paper which has indicators marked for pixels.
  2. Using grid paper or dotted paper will make it easier to draw straight lines.
  3. Use stencils to make the sketch look more realistic and detailed.
  4. Do not just draw boxes, add details to your sketch as iterate your design.
  5. Use sticky notes to show slide out windows and dropdowns.
  6. Use actual titles in the sketch instead of scribbling.
  7. Use grey highlighters to show disabled effect.
  8. Sketch in layers using grey highlighters.
  9. Use colored pens and markers to make your sketch look more finished.
  10. Use different colors to show different kinds of interaction on a screen.
  11. Try to cover as many interactions as possible onto one sketch and then annotate them thoroughly.
  12. If on a sticky note there is lot of extra space, rip off that extra space to make your sketch look cleaner.
  13. If longer page is needed to explain an interaction for a long screen, attach an extra half or 1/4 page at the bottom of the page.
  14. Do not use lot of erasers, instead re-sketch. Every time you sketch, more design juices will flow into your brain.
  15. Use call out shaped sticky notes for call outs on sketch.
  16. Add lots of callouts to explain the behavior envisioned.
  17. Document your sketches. Have screen name, date, version number, people involved in the design, people involved in the review.

Making Website Sticky!!

1)Forget three click rules:
Make the information accesible to them in least clicks may be one or two. Users don't like to go through

hierarchy to get the information.
2)Organize the information on your webpage in F pattern:
An eye tracking study was done on how the users scan the website and it was founbd that
they scan it in F shaped pattern. Put all your important information in that shape.
3)Don't make users wait alot:
Use new technologies like cloud computing to fetch data fast and display it to users in few milliseconds, that will make
them very much happy and they won't go away from your website.
4)Make all your content easily readable:
Try to use minimum text to convey lot of information. A study was done and it was found that
only 28% of text is read by the users so don't junk them with lots of text.
5)Don't worry about the scroll and fold:
It doesn't matter if you have long text. Peoel will scrol down if they find it intersting. So your task is to
make the content very interesting.
6)Always remember place all your important information on left side of the page:As I said before users scan page in F pattern so place your important information
on left side.
7)Don't add more white spaces in your webpage:
That annoys users.
8)Small details make huge difference:
Sometimes we think that this is very obvious we don't need to provide this information
to the user but that is not the fact. You feel it obvious because you build this, the other person might
mis-interpret things.
9)Don't rely on Search feature:
IT s not that if you provide users with search functionality they will prefer searching, they still
prefer to click on the link available and not the extra work of searching it.
10)Your home page is not as important as you think:
We always think that home page is very important. Users don't care about your home page
they want the information, data provide them that.

Of all this TEN points I would like to add my point of view that when you make something for user think like a user, place yourself into their shoes.
Make a connection between them and that is what is called user centered approach and user centered approach will
always win because you are providing them with what they want, you are pin pointing their needs and giving them back.
This is it for now.
Hope this was informative and fun to read!!
